Ellie Prodromou, a Marrickville local and founder of Penny Marathon, raises funds for stray and abandoned animals around the world.
The Penny Marathan is a registered international charity who use fitness as a way to raise awareness of the plight of animals. They’re not frontline rescuers, rather, their focus is to help those who are.
The annual marathon takes place in July in different cities around the world. Participants run, cycle, swim, paddle and roll up to 42 kilometres. They also organise events throughout the year to achieve their goals. The money they raise through donations and sales is primarily used for various stages of the rescue, such as medical emergencies, re-homeing, boarding, food and bedding, spaying and neutering, vaccinations, travel and other essential costs.
